At the end of January the Supreme Court of the UK ruled that Britain could not trigger Article 50 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU, thereby removing Britain from the EU, without the consent of Parliament in some form. While incredibly, the involvement of the court received a significant amount of backlash, for me it was a welcome reinforcement of the rule of law and parliamentary sovereignty – which says that no one is above the law and the Government is subordinate to Parliament who is elected by the people…
